Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q: Why do I have to sign an acceptable use policy (AUP) every year?
A: You are a digital citizen and that is awesome! There are more opportunities open to you than ever before. As a digital citizen you have responsibilities to yourself and to others. The AUP outlines these responsibilities. At any time you can ask your teacher or another adult to review them with you to help you better understand them.
Q: Can I use my school account to sign up for other websites, subscriptions, etc.?
A: Your school account should be used for educational purposes only. The rules governing educational accounts are different than those for commercial accounts. If your parents allow you to have a personal email account, that account may be a better choice for recreational use. Once you leave our school, your email will no longer be active.
Q: Will my school account work outside of school?
A: Yes, you can log into your GSuite for Education account from anywhere as long as you know your username and password. Depending on your grade level, your account may only be able to send and receive email from other accounts that end with @bristol.k12.wi.us.
Q: I am having account problems with my account. Who can help me?
A: Start with your teacher first. He/she will contact someone in the technology department if necessary. We will do our best to resolve the issue as fast as we can so you can continue using your school account to grow, learn and succeed.
Q: I don't see the same bookmarks at home that I see at school. What is happening?
A: First, be sure you are using the Chrome browser (look for the three vertical dots near the top right). Second, If you are using a device other than a Chromebook, make sure your name shows on the tab on the top right of the Chrome browser. If not, sign into the browser using your school account. Signing into the Chrome browser is different than signing into your email account and signing in with your personal account is different than signing in with your school account.
Q: Can my account be turned off or suspended?
A: We sure hope your choices never result in a loss of account privileges but yes, your account may be suspended if you make poor choices about how you use your school issued account. Remember what you have learned about being a responsible digital citizen both at school and at home.
Q: Can I save files to the school's network drive?
A: No, students cannot save to a network drive but you can save to your flash drive or upload files to Google Drive.
Q: Can I save everything to my Google Drive?
A: Google only allows certain types of files to be saved. Read the file type list. Many websites allow files to be uploaded to Google Drive but not all websites are integrated with GSuite for Education accounts just yet.
Q: I am graduating or moving away. Can I take my Google Drive files with me?
A: Read what steps to take before you leave.
Q: The Chromebook I am using is not working properly. What should I do?
A: Provide your teacher with details and he/she will write a work order or contact the tech department. The Chromebook used at school is not yours, it belongs to the district, so do not try to fix it, reset it, or recover it. If you are experiencing technical problems with your personal Chromebook at home, you may wish to contact the manufacturer or search Read the Google Support documentation if you are experiencing trouble with your Chromebook.
