Early Entrance Procedures
Selection Procedures
The Early Entrance Evaluation team will consider the following areas in determining readiness for early entrance: Early Concepts, Self-Help, Language Usage and Socio-Emotional Behavioral Skills. Although the team will follow a standard procedure, additional assessment may be necessary depending on each individual case.
Please Consider
The decision for a child to enter school early can have a profound effect on his or her academic and social performance for the remainder of the child’s school career. It is a decision that needs to be taken very seriously. Academic readiness, academic potential, and social emotional maturity are all equally important considerations. Parents requesting Early Entrance should be aware that very few children screened meet the criteria to enter kindergarten or first grade early.
5K or 1st Grade Early Entrance
- Student(s) must complete district-wide benchmark assessments. Student(s) must score within the Average or Above Average range compared to students who will be 5-years-old for 5K or 6-years-old for 1st grade by September 1st. Students who meet this criteria will be recommended for additional individual assessment.
- All scores on individual assessments of academic achievement and intellectual ability must fall within the Above Average range when compared to children who will be 5-years-old or 6-years old by September 1st.
- Social-emotional maturity at least equal to the child’s ability level and to children who will be 5-years-old or 6-years-old by September 1st.
- Other assessments as determined by the District Early Entrance Evaluation team may be administered based upon the results from any of the above assessments.
Upon completion of the evaluation, the Early Entrance Evaluation team will provide a written summary and recommendation to the principal. A meeting will be conducted with the parent/guardian to tell them of the decision.
