Important Change to Virtual Backpack Announcements
To share inclusive digital materials for our families, we have an important update regarding the future of our Virtual Backpack.
While the date for public school compliance with the New Rule on the Accessibility of Web Content and Mobile App Accessibility has been changed, Bristol School is preparing now by making changes in our Virtual Backpack process by adjusting how we handle feeder school and non-profit announcements shared to our school community.
To ensure compliance and guarantee that all digital materials are fully accessible, Bristol School will begin to transition away from PDF flyers from feeder schools or non-profit organizations for the 2026-2027 school year.
Sharing information and opportunities between schools and with our larger school community remains important to us all and we plan to continue supporting these communications. To balance our compliance responsibilities with our commitment to collaboration, we are shifting to a link-based process.
New Process for Announcements
Beginning this year, we will be moving to text-based announcements of Westosha feeder school events, community events, or local area non-profit events and announcements, along with a direct link to the hosting school or organization’s official website where the full information is posted.
Guidelines
- Activities/events must be aligned with our school initiatives, goals, and philosophies, and be student/family-oriented or community-related.
- Events considered for publication include those originating from or designed for Westosha feeder schools or local non-profit groups.
- All materials are reviewed by the district administrator or his/her designee before posting to ensure that district guidelines and policies are met.
- Events listed may be sponsored or offered by organizations other than Bristol School District #1.
- Bristol School District #1 may deny any request if it does not meet the district’s criteria.
- Virtual Backpack links may be made in advance whenever possible, but start dates will not be guaranteed.
