Course Descriptions:
Computer Science: This is an introductory course that empowers students to engage with computer science as a medium for creativity, communication, problem solving, and fun! It will take a wide lens on computer science by covering topics such as programming, learning how a computer works, and building your own creations. There is no prior knowledge required. Just bring your curiosity.
Bristol Swing Incorporated: This course is a choral group that focuses on all aspects of vocal performance, rhythm, melody, pitch, balance, blend just to name a few. The ADDED focus is on stage presence, professionalism on stage, choreography or movement. The songs can, and have, included current Musical Theater selections, current top charting hits as well. This is an opportunity for your child to continue to enhance their musicianship throughout the year.
Journalism/Newspaper: This course will introduce students to the basics of print journalism. They will learn investigative skills, responsible reporting, and journalistic writing techniques as they read, analyze, and write their own news and feature articles. Students will write pieces fit for publication in our school newspaper. They will have the opportunity to choose the topics they will write about, be exposed to a variety of news articles (news, sports, opinion, movie reviews, etc.), and will revise and edit their work.
Spanish: This course is an introduction to Spanish and focuses on the four key areas of foreign language study: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Additionally, students will explore the culture of the spanish-speaking world.
Visual Journaling: In this course you will combine the idea of keeping a journal and a sketchbook in the same place. Students will explore creative ways to express experiences, feelings and emotions both visually and verbally with a variety of art mediums. Artistic talent is not a requirement, the only requirement is the willingness to be open minded. Students will begin with guided lessons and graduate to the freedom to explore independently.
Personal Fitness: In this course, students will learn to plan fitness goals catered to either aerobic or anaerobic fitness. Students will implement activities using logical progressions in order to achieve those goals. Along the way, students will learn about the goal setting process and will learn when to adjust or re-evaluate their goals. Any student in the 7th and 8th grade who would like to improve their goal setting skills and/or their level of physical fitness is welcome.
Video Announcements: In this course you will learn to record, edit, produce and broadcast video programs. The main goal is to create a video version on Monday morning announcements. Other productions will be completed as time permits. Requirements: Regular attendance, good team player, responsible.
Animal Anatomy: This course is a study of the various groups of animals found in the animal kingdom. The course will include multiple dissections to explore the internal workings of different animals and a particular focus will be placed on correlations between the inner-workings of animals and humans.
