The Student Technology Ambassadors Program started back in 2015-2016 as a way to spread the word about technology in the school community and cultivate a student environment of exploration, experimentation, and learning. Students may learn about tips and tricks, basic troubleshooting techniques, specific educational apps or websites, or share news about a local or global technology event.
Different than the traditional computer club, this program allows small groups of students to work with the technology coordinator to focus on specific skills relevant to their current classroom projects as well as topics of personal interest generated by the students. Students will then bring those skills back to their classrooms acting as peer helpers and assisting in their classrooms and grade levels as peer models.
Topics of interest may include basic troubleshooting, advanced search strategies, Google Docs, Drawings, Slides, Spreadsheets, Google Drawings, A Web Whiteboard, trialing apps and extensions, YouTube, and video screencasting. Currently, the unusual circumstances of the 2020-2021 school year means we are revamping the program and there will be more information to follow.
No special technology skills are necessary to become an ambassador, just the desire to listen to learn and the willingness to work productively with others following the Renegade Way. Our focus will be on exploration, creation and design as we help students become Future Ready. Participation is on a rotating basis between classes and grade levels so many students will have an opportunity to join over the course of the year.
I look forward to Growing, Learning, and Succeeding together with the students. I never know what skills they will be able to teach me but look forward to the adventure together!
